How We Protect You
Keeping your financial and personal information about you
secure is one of our most important responsibilities. In
order to keep your information confidential, all of our
systems are protected.
We have taken many precautions in order to ensure that all communications and information we have regarding your personal information are protected. These include the following measures:
Security is a Group Effort
Keeping your financial and personal information about you
secure is an important responsibility, and to that end, we
have documented the security practices we have implemented
and that we ask you, as one of our members, to adhere to
as well.
It is important that you verify the identity of any party before you disclose sensitive information to them. This means, for instance, ensuring the name in the address bar of your browser indeed belongs to one of our servers (it should be of the form https://sfcu.upenn.edu/... for our website or of the form https://eteller.sfcu.upenn.edu/... for our Online Banking service). Ensure that your communication is encrypted: in Firefox or Internet Explorer, you should see a padlock icon in the lower right-hand corner of your browser. Firefox will, additionally, change the color of the address bar to yellow to indicate a secure connection. This web page, for instance, is not secured, but our Customer Service Request Form is secured.
Remember that no Student Federal Credit Union e-mail will ever ask you for your Online Banking password, your account number or any other personal account information, such as your card number or PIN.
Report E-mail Fraud & Phishing Schemes
Recognizing fradulent e-mail messages is not always
easy. In a phishing attack, a person spams the Internet
with e-mail claiming to be from a reputable financial
institution or e-commerce site. The e-mail message urges
the recipient to click on a link to update their personal
profile or carry out some transaction. The link takes the
victim to a fake website designed to look like the real
thing. However, any personal or financial information
entered is routed directly to the scammer.
If you believe you have been the target of a phishing scheme, or have received a fradulent e-mail, please report it immediately to supervisory@sfcu.upenn.edu.
Report Check Card & Identity Theft
If you have lost your SFCU VISA® Check Card or ATM
Card, or had it stolen, please immediately contact
our card systems operator, STAR Systems, at
1-800-523-4175, 24 hours a day. They can status your card
as stolen to prevent fraudulent transactions from taking
place. In addition, please contact our office or submit a
Lost
or Stolen Card Report.
If you have questions or concerns about our security policies, don't hesitate to contact us, either by visiting our offices, calling us at (215) 898-9697 or on the web at supervisory@sfcu.upenn.edu.
