    ATM and Debit Cards

Can I use my PennCard as an ATM and debit card?
Through the University's PennCard program, all SFCU members are able to "link" their PennCards to their SFCU accounts. Once linked, the PennCard can function as both an ATM and a debit card. Note that the PennCard is accepted as a debit card only where you see the MAC, PLUS or STAR symbols (see the back of your PennCard), while the VISA® Check Card is accepted anywhere that VISA® is taken.

What fees do I incur when I use an ATM?
The chart below details our ATM fee schedule:

    ATM Access Information
    Location PennCard VISA® Check Card
    On-Campus SFCU ATMs
    3 On-Campus
    PennCard Network ATMs
    12 On-Campus
    Off-Campus Allpoint Network
    32,000 ATMs Nationwide
    Off-Network ATMs

    Key:
All Accounts - Free & Unlimited
    Checking - Free & Unlimited
    Savings - $1.25
    All Accounts - $1.25

Why am I having a problem with my ATM Card?
Your ATM card may not be working due to any of the following reasons:

    • You are entering the wrong PIN
    • You have reached your withdrawal limit ($200 from 3pm of one business day to 3pm to the next business day, note that Friday 3pm to Monday 3pm is ONE business day)
    • The ATM is experiencing a temporary problem
    • If you are consistently experiencing problems, save any printouts the ATM may have given you, and speak to a Member Services Representative.

What can my VISA® Check Card be used for?
    1. Your VISA® Check Card can be used to make purchases at any merchant who accepts VISA®. Unlike a credit card, the VISA® Check Card automatically deducts your purchase from your checking account, reducing your need to carry cash. Transactions will appear on your monthly statement, and you will receive no separate bill.

    2. Your VISA® Check Card can be used as an ATM card.

See the chart above for a fee schedule.

How much can I withdraw or purchase on my VISA® Check Card?
Your card’s initial limit is $500 per bank day. A bank day extends from 3pm of one business day to 3pm of the following business day; note that Friday 3pm to the following Monday at 3pm is considered one business day.

    • The sum of one bank day’s debit purchases, ATM withdrawals, and cash back cannot exceed this limit of $500.
    • Maximum combined cash back and ATM withdrawals is $200 per bank day.
    • If you wish to have your total limit raised, contact our Member Services office.

    Accounts

What do I need to do to open an SFCU account?
To become an SFCU member, you must be a student, alumni, or immediate family member of a student or alum of the University of Pennsylvania. As a credit union member, you will have to open a Savings account with a minimum balance of $5. This makes you a shareholder in the credit union. Checking accounts are also available, including interest-bearing checking accounts. For more information, view an overview of accounts we offer.

What kind of insurance does my account have?
As a federal credit union, we are backed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a government agency, and all member accounts are insured up to $100,000.

    Account Access

How do I wire money into my account?
Provide the following information to the sending bank:

    • Destination routing (or ABA) number: 231-387-550
    • Destination financial institution: Mid-Atlantic Corporate Federal Credit Union
    • Further credit routing number: 036-089-053
    • Further credit financial institution: Student Federal Credit Union at the University of Pennsylvania
    • Final credit account number: your account number
    • Final credit to: your name

How do I wire money out of my account?
You need the following information from the recipient:

    • The recipient's name, account number, and full address.
    • The destination bank's 9-digit routing (or ABA) number and their full address. If this is an international wire, you need the bank's SWIFT code and full address.
    • Any intermediary banks' names and routing numbers.
    • Your complete address.

Domestic wire requests submitted before 1:30pm will be initiated that same business day. International wire requests submitted before 12:00pm will be initiated that same business day. All other requests will be initiated the following business day.

How do I set up Direct Deposit?
You will need to provide your employer with our routing number (036-089-053) and your account number (4, 5 or 9 digits).

What bills can I pay with the Bill Pay service?
Any recurring expense can be automated with the Bill Pay service. If the billing company supports electronic payments, the funds will be electronically transferred out of your account. If the billing company does not accept electronic payments, you can configure Bill Pay so that a paper check will be sent through the U.S. mail instead. Either way, the process is free, automated, and managed through our Online Banking interface.

How do I set up Bill Pay?
Contact us to sign up for the Bill Pay service. After you are signed up, you can manage your bills online via our Online Banking interface.

Why am I having trouble accessing the Bank-by-Phone (automated telephone banking) service?
There are two likely explanations. When asked for your account suffix number, savings is suffix "1" and checking is suffix "9". The second possibility is that you may be entering the incorrect PIN. Your Bank-by-Phone PIN is initially set to the last 4 digits of your social security number. For more help, contact a Member Services Representative.

What is the SFCU's check holding policy?
Business checks and checks drawn from SFCU member accounts clear immediately: the funds are available for immediate use. For personal checks not drawn on an SFCU account, the first $100 of the check will clear after the 1st business day, and the rest will clear after the 3rd business day. There is no differentiation between local and non-local checks. Online Banking or an ATM receipt may indicate that your current balance reflects the check clearing immediately, but note that your available balance will reflect our check holding policy. Your available balance is how much money you can immediately access.

I want to make a large cash withdrawal from the teller window. What do I need to do?
For cash withdrawals up to $200, you need 1 form of photo ID (a PennCard is fine). For cash withdrawals over $200, you need 2 forms of photo ID. For any cash withdrawal over $500, please contact us 3 business days in advance so we can ensure that we have enough funds available.

How does the new email statements system work?

    • Our new email statements system, known as eStatements, is integrated with our Online Banking service; you must be enrolled in our Online Banking service to receive email statements. If you are not currently enrolled, please contact us and we can activate your Online Banking and eStatement access over the phone.
    • Instead of receiving your statement as an encrypted PDF file every month, you will receive a simple email with links to where you can view your eStatement as either a web page (html format) or download it as a PDF file. You need to supply your Online Banking password to access your eStatement in either format. You can even download your eStatement as an encrypted PDF file that will only be viewable with your Online Banking password.
    • Your eStatements are always accessible via our Online Banking system. You can view and download statements from previous months and change the email address at which to receive your eStatement.
    • If you would like to receive an eStatement instead of a paper statement next month, just fill out our online services request form.
